Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter Suhana Khan, Sridevi’s daughter Khushi Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson Agastya Nanda are going to debut with a film named The Archies. The film is not just the story of these three characters. It is based on seven friends. But still there is no talk of the remaining four. The film’s director Zoya Akhtar has the same complaint. He says that the media itself focuses only on star kids and then tries to corner them on nepotism. Before the release of ‘The Archies’, Zoya Akhtar and writer Reema Kagti spoke to Film Companion. Regarding the casting of the film, Zoya said,
This is my fifth film. Not the first. You have seen my films. I do casting keeping the film in mind. This was a Netflix film. There was no casting pressure on me from their side. I could have cast anyone. You want kids who look like they are 17 years old. These kids have to act. We did a lot of auditions. These actors gave the test. I chose the ones I thought would fit here. It’s just that simple.
One thing surprises me a lot. There were seven children on that poster. Netflix and Tiger Baby placed all seven children on the poster. The media talked about only three and then they are turning around and explaining to us about nepotism. Actually you people (media) did not pay attention to those four children. You took away their moment from them. Just seeing this was heart breaking. You are talking to us. We kept all seven out. You snatched away the moment of four people by completely ignoring them.
Reema Kagti further said that people come to her and complain that you have taken three star kids in the film. On this Reema further says,
I ask him whether he paid attention to the other four children. Do you even know their names? We are very excited about them. Every one of those actors is amazing. What happened to those four was very sad. Something wrong happened with the three star kids too.
Let us tell you that ‘The Archies’ is a film based on popular American comics. This musical drama is set in the 1960s, where seven children work together to save a park.
