In 2013, Swamy was convinced by his mentor Mani Ratam to return to films with Kadal. The actor then started doing supporting roles instead of lead roles but in his second innings he became very selective.
In 2021, he also made a comeback to Bollywood, when he played the role of MG Ramachandran in the Tamil-Hindi bilingual Thalaivi opposite Kangana Ranaut. He will next be seen in Naragasooran, Kallapart and Sathuranga Vettai 2 but for now these films have been delayed.
